Ongar & District Twinning Association are proud to be part of this year’s 75th VE Day Anniversary themed Town Festival. The Association will be based in the Library Car Park which will be surrounded by market stalls, a food court and entertainment.
The centre will be the focal point of a 12 Pistes Petanque competition comprising of 32 teams from the Eastern Counties including 6 teams from Ongar.
The Association would like to sincerely thank the Ongar Town Council for their generous grant of £1,000 towards the cost of Ongar Town Festival without their support the Festival would not be possible.
Ongar & District Twinning Association was formed 36 years ago when Ongar twinned with Cerizay a small rural town in the Loire valley of France. Twinning is the coming together of like-minded communities seeking to develop a closer friendship. Both towns still have members who were part of the original meeting in France all those years ago, which must say a lot.
Ongar Twinning members will be visiting Cerizay this year over the Easter weekend & will be hosted by members of the Cerizay Jumelage ( Twinning ) in their own homes . The weekend will be time to meet old friends & make new friendships & enjoy French culture & hospitality. It is a great way of making friends of several generations of the same family. Next year in 2021 the weekend will be reciprocated in Ongar.
When do we meet?
Members of the Association meet regularly on a Sunday morning weather permitting around 10.30am at the Petanque Piste behind the Library in Ongar for a social game of Petanque – the French National Game.
If you are interested please come along & join in the play, guidance will be given, no experience is required. During the year a BBQ is held together with quiz evenings.
If you are interested in joining our activities please contact Bob Gammon via email or call 07941 790326. Alternatively please see me at the Festival on Friday the 8th May 2020 in the Library car park.
